  • The Project is Growing; Come Work with Me

Update: This position has been filled. Thank you everybody for inquiring. If you would still like to contribute to the project, I have additional work that you can email me about.

The world of ideas is thriving outside of academia. I’ve been in it for a few years, and I’ve reached a point where I could use help. If you’ve been enthusiastic about the project – either my personal work or the broader intellectual revolution taking place online – then this is your opportunity to get your feet wet.

This is an unpaid position that requires less than 10 hours per week right now. If things work out, then I have more work I can delegate to you, and eventually it could turn into a paid position.

    Responsibilities:

    Audio editing
    Proofreading
    Logistics
    Strategic research
    Social media

    Requirements:

    Honesty (there’s a zero-tolerance policy for bullshit)
Ability to teach yourself (both in terms of skills needed to complete the task, and learning from mistakes)
Enthusiasm (if you don’t want to do the job, don’t apply)
    Proofreading skill

    Things you need to know:

You need to already have a high skill level for proofreading. I don’t care as much about current skill level for the other responsibilities, since those can be learned on the job easily enough.

This is an indefinite position that could easily turn into a longer term partnership. I’ve got huge plans, and I’ll be needing somebody I can trust for the long run – even if that means going unpaid for a while. The more driven you are to help this expand, the sooner it can become a paid position.

You need to see and agree with the vision: the next generation of intellectuals will live on the internet. We’re (slightly) early adopters.

    How to apply:

Send me an email at patterson@steve-patterson.com

I’d like to see any experience you have – a blog you’ve written/edited, videos you’ve shot/edited, social media stats, any cool ideas you have for expanding the project/ideas for growth.

Especially good would be finding typos within articles on this site that can be corrected (there are many).

  • Ep. 38 – The Post-Truth Era | Dr. Robert Nola

Do we live in a post-truth world? What does that term even mean?

I’m joined by Dr. Robert Nola, who has been teaching at the University of Auckland for almost half a century. We discuss fundamental questions about truth, talk about what “post-truth” means, and also cover the methodology of “faith” in the philosophy of religion.

  • Ep. 37 – Free Will, Causality, and Pluralism | Dr. Mario De Caro

What is the cause of somebody’s stroke? Is it the laws of physics? The mechanics of biology? The choices that they made? Or perhaps it’s all of the above?

My guest today is Dr. Mario De Caro, who has an interesting answer to these questions. He is a metaphysical pluralist, who believes in multiple categories of existence and causation, each of which is not reducible to the other.
